London MCM Expo 2009
38,366 visitors enticed to Excel last weekend, with the event returning next May.
24-25 OCTOBER – EXCEL LONDON – ROYAL VICTORIA DOCK
The London MCM Expo, the UK’s biggest and best consumer entertainment event, has once again smashed attendance records, up 14 per cent on the last show with a staggering 38,366 visitors flocking through the doors of the Excel Centre over the weekend.
And it’s no surprise that the MCM Expo continues to go from strength to strength, given the wealth of movie, television, anime, comics and gaming goodness on offer. Special guests included the stars of Merlin; Warehouse 13; True Blood; Battlestar Galactica and upcoming films Bunny & The Bull and The Losers. The show also provided the opening for this year’s London Games Festival, with no fewer than 12 of the world’s biggest videogames publishers giving visitors sneak previews of their hottest titles.
“We are ecstatic with the huge turnout over 11,000 people in the first hour” commented MCM Expo organiser and co-founder Bryan Cooney. “We have worked very hard with our partners to make the October show a success and with a 14% increase in attendance it looks like the show is going to just keep on growing. We have 70% of show space for May 2010 already reserved”
Other Expo highlights included the vibrant Comic Village, boasting over 80 creators and writers; the Anime Village, once again supported by all major UK distributors; the Victorian Steampunk Society, who celebrated the release of hit new film ‘9’ with a special exhibition; and the ever-popular Cosplay Masquerade, which saw hundreds of fans dressing up as their favourite movie, videogame and anime characters.
