Letterblox

Word game claims five million "plays".

May 5, 2009 (New York, NY) Free online Multiplayer Games site OMGPOP.com announced today that its letterblox game has been played over 5 million times in the first month, making it one of the most popular games on the site. "We thought we would try a word game, but we were blown away at how big a hit the game has been with the kids" said CEO Dan Porter. "We all assumed that with high school and college kids, they would gravitate to our games like draw my thing, and balloono, which are fun, casual multiplayer games and that a word game might be almost too, dare I say, educational."

In letterblox there are 6 letters presented and the player has one minute and thirty seconds to make as many word combinations as possible, while competing live against up to 6 other players. "The scores from kids still in high school have been unbelievable," said Porter. "We have had Ivy League Ph.d's getting pwn'ed by 10th graders thus proving the games motto: 'learn urself to be less dumb.' While there have been cheaters on the site, and they are easily identified by cheating algorhythms, most high scores come from kids hiding out in schools and colleges who have proven to have unbelievable word and language acumen.

We have seen letterblox tweets on twitter such as:

"I hurt myself playing Letterblox, and I haven't seen my family or friends since I started playing."

"Playing Letterblox.. But nobody wants to play with me, because I beat them time and time again"

"........... if your exams were on Letterblox you would do perfect. =)"

OMGPOP plans to release additional features including personal best scores and other scoring metrics. Them kids is real smart, and surprisingly, they can't get enough of letterblox!
