Leisure Suit Larry looks to Kickstarter for new life
Replay Entertainment working with Al Lowe and Adventure Mob to relaunch Leisure Suit Larry
Kickstarter's seen a huge rise in pledges since Double Fine's record-breaking round, and now another classic PC franchise is attempting a revival with the help of Kickstarter, as Replay Entertainment and Al Lowe have announced that they'll be trying their luck with a reboot of Leisure Suit Larry.
The new Leisure Suit Larry project has already hit over $40,000 at the time of this writing, and Replay Entertainment and venerated designer Al Lowe are pushing fans of the title to a goal of $500,000. Replay and Lowe are teaming up on development with Israeli studio Adventure Mob. The developer has already confirmed a Unity-backed 3D game - a complete remake of Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards.
"We want to do it without any pesky publishers telling us to dumb it down or to make it tamer so we can get it into Wal-Mart," says Lowe on the Kickstarter. "We want to give you what you've been asking for, a return to the one true Larry."
The team has promised any added investments will be put towards multi-platform launching. That initial $500,000 will fund a full game, voice work, HD visuals and a full point-and-click or touch screen interface. Gamers can also expect the launch on Steam, completely DRM-free.
As an added enticing feature to investing, perks include beta access, cameos within the game and even a trip to Vegas with Lowe and Sierra On-Line vet Josh Mandel.
