Perpetual Entertainment has announced the appointment of visionary Star Trek artist Andrew Probert as design consultant on the company's forthcoming massively multiplayer online game, Star Trek Online.
With an artistic career in Hollywood sci-fi production spanning more than twenty years, Probert's famous sci-fi designs include the Klingon battle cruiser's bridge and Vulcan shuttle in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the interior and exterior of the AirWolf helicopter, and the original Cylon race and Cylon BaseStar in Battlestar Galactica.
Working as senior illustrator on the first series of Star Trek: Next Generation, Probert designed a slew of sets, props, alien environments and a host of new spacecraft, including the Galaxy-class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D.
The artist will be working closely with Perpetual, updating the interior layout of the Enterprise, and creating new deck layouts for new locations featuring in the forthcoming game. Initial blueprints and a selection of concept art by Probert can be seen by visiting the game's development site, with additional designs and info to follow in the coming months.
Probert commented: "I was happy to be asked by Perpetual to contribute new design thinking and explorations into a Star Trek universe no one's ever seen. I'm sure the fans will enjoy discovering and exploring all the new spaces we're creating."
A massively multiplayer online game set twenty years after the most recent movie, Star Trek Nemesis, Perpetual's Star Trek Online will enable thousands of players to climb the ranks through Starfleet - exploring new worlds, making contact with alien races and competing with friend and foe to become the next great Starfleet captain. A release date for the title has yet to be confirmed.
