Japan Charts: Sega's J-League soccer title lifts the software market

The Japanese leisure software market has seen its first really major release in weeks, with Sega's "Let's Make J-League Pro Soccer Club! 3" managing sales of over a quarter of a million units in its first week on sale.

The strong sales of the game (whose 260k unit opening week is an improvement over the previous title in the series, which managed only 214k units) have driven the Japanese software market to a slight recovery, with a 10 per cent boost in unit sales over last week.

However, the market is still weak - in fact, less than 600,000 units of software were sold in total during the last week, so as you can imagine, the gap between number one on the chart and number two is really very significant. That number two slot is held by Spike's Fire Pro Wrestling Z, also on PS2, which is the only other new release in the top ten.

The rest of the chart is all very familiar - people are still buying plenty of GBA titles, with both Pokemon titles still in the top ten, jockeying for position with the likes of Hamtaro, Wario Ware, Fire Emblem and the sole third party GBA title in the top ten, Enix' Dragon Warrior Monsters: Caravan Heart.
