Japan Charts: Second week at the top for Onimusha 3

The third instalment of Capcom's successful samurai slash 'em up franchise Onimusha has held its place at the top of the Japanese charts this week, ahead of Nintendo's Cube RPG Custom Robo which came in at number two.

The third instalment of Capcom's successful samurai slash 'em up franchise Onimusha has held its place at the top of the Japanese charts this week, ahead of Nintendo's Cube RPG Custom Robo which came in at number two.

Custom Robo is the first major Cube release in Japan in a couple of months, so Nintendo will be happy to see it charting strongly - although no titles sold all that well this week, as unit shipments slumped to 55 per cent of last week's total due to a lack of really big new releases.

The only other new game in the ranking was Sony's PS2 title, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is based on the very successful Ghost in the Shell TV series - a second season of which is airing in Japan at the moment ahead of a second Ghost in the Shell movie later this year.

Elsewhere in the top ten, the PS2 is well represented by older titles such as Koei's Samurai Warriors, Konami's Winning Eleven 7 International, Bandai's SD Gundam GGeneration SEED and Genki's Kaido Battle 2, while the Game Boy Advance has entries for Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros and the two latest Pokemon titles, Fire Red and Leaf Green.

In hardware terms, there's little change from last week, with the GBA holding some 50 per cent of the market by units compared with just over 40 per cent for the PS2, while the GameCube makes a slight recovery to just under eight per cent.
