Japan Charts: New PS2 online titles arrive

Two new PlayStation 2 online titles have launched in Japan, supporting the arrival of Sony's PlayStation BB Pack, which incorporates a console and network adapter - but neither title is setting the charts alight.

Koei's Nobunga's Ambition Online and Sony's own Hot Shots Golf Online entered the charts at number two and three respectively - but in the second worst week this year to date for software sales, neither game could manage more than about 20,000 unit sales.

By comparison, Square's Final Fantasy XI - the only other major online PS2 game to have rolled out in Japan so far - sold 71,000 units in its first week on sale despite serious difficulty faced by customers in getting their hands on network hardware.

Sega's Let's Make J-League Pro Soccer Club! 3 is still top of the pops this week, then, and the rest of the chart is mostly made up of familiar faces from the Game Boy Advance range - with Nintendo's franchises such as Pokemon, Hamtaro and Wario all retaining their top ten placings.

Four PS2 titles, four GBA titles and two GameCube titles make up the top ten.

The PlayStation BB Pack has, however, given a bit of extra drive to the hardware market even if it hasn't really done much for the software market - this week saw an increase in overall sales of some 31,000 units, mostly thanks to the broadband-enabled console pack.
