Japan Charts: Banpresto takes the top spot with new Super Robot Battle

Publisher Banpresto has recorded its second number one debut in a row in Japan with GBA title Super Robot Battle: Original Generation 2, while YUKE'S' WWE SmackDown! Vs RAW is the only other new title in the top ten.

The new Super Robot Battle GBA title displaced last week's number one, Banpresto PS2 title Another Century's Episode, which like its successor is also a game whose main selling point is featuring a large number of famous giant robots from various anime series.

Super Robot Battle recorded a strong first week with around 108,000 sales, but the rest of the chart saw a major decline - with only three titles racking up over 10,000 sales (Another Century's Episode and Square Enix RPG title Radiata Stories being the other two).

YUKE'S latest wrestling game, WWE SmackDown! Vs RAW, debuted at number six in the charts, and was the only other new entry in a ranking which was once again free of PSP titles, although two DS games made it in - with Yoshi Touch and Go at number five, and Wario Ware Touched! at number nine.

In hardware terms, the PSP led the pack, however, with just over 33 per cent of unit sales going to Sony's new handheld, compared to 20 per cent for Nintendo's latest entry into the market.

The PlayStation 2 also continued to sell strongly, also winning almost 33 per cent market share, while the Game Boy Advance had just under 10 per cent and the GameCube continued its consistent performance around the five per cent mark.
