Jamdat shareholders approve EA acquisition
Deal to complete by the end of the month
Less than three months after Electronic Arts announced plans to expand its mobile gaming division with the acquisition of Jamdat Mobile, the deal has been officially approved by shareholders.
The acquisition, which is worth an estimated USD 680 million, was approved at a meeting held last Friday in Santa Monica. As forecast, stockholders will receive a cash payment of USD 27 for each Jamdat share owned. The companies have already met the necessary regulatory requirements, and the deal is expected to complete by the end of the month.
EA's intention to acquire Jamdat, which was first announced in December, marks the largest move towards consolidation ever made in the mobile market and the largest single acquisition in EA's history.
On completion of the deal, Jamdat CEO Mitch Lasky will oversee EA's global mobile gaming business. EA plans to publish more than 50 games for mobile phones over the course of the next 12 months.
