Jadestone’s Kodo Best Independent Game
Stockholm, Sweden 2006-03-10
Kodo - the hungry mobile action puzzle game developed by Swedish Jadestone was awarded SDSI's "Best Independent Game of the Year" award at yesterday's Expressen Game Awards. All the Kodos are reported to happily nibble away at the trophy.
The ceremony was held last night at well-known landmark Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm, Sweden last night. This year Game Awards marked the introduction of the new "Best Independent Game of the Year" Award. The award has been instituted by Svenska Datorspelsinstitutet, SDSI, in recognition of the important and increasingly growing independent scene, i.e. games being developed without financing or support from established publishers.
Kodo Blue, main character of Kodo, said:
"Just being nominated for this award is a great honour for us, but to actually win is beyond comprehension. Of course Kodo is a fantastic game; Me and the team knew that already and we're happy that other people are discovering it. But really, this is not only an award for a great game. It's an acknowledgement of an increasingly extremely important part of the industry: The Independent Developers. In a time of astronomical budget productions and sequels, it's reassuring to know that creativity, innovation and original ideas still is being recognized."
Kodo is a simple and fun action-puzzle game where the competitors struggle to not be eaten. Up to 8 players (on some phones14!) are able to play at the same phone at the same time.
Yesterday's award marks the second year in a row for Jadestone. At last years Game Awards, Jadestone was awarded "The Jury Award" for their groundbreaking and innovative e-sports series.
