Itch.io decries NFTs, calls them "a scam"
Indie hosting site says "f*ck any company that says they support creators and also endorses NFTs in any way"
Games platform Itch.io has expressed its disdain for NFTs in a series of tweets addressing its stance on the trend.
"NFTs are a scam," the statement said. "If you think they are legitimately useful for anything other than the exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet then we ask that you please reevaluate your life choices."
"Also fuck any company that says they support creators and also endorses NFTs in any way. They only care about their own profit and the opportunity for wealth above anyone else. Especially given the now easily available discourse concerning the problems of NFTs.
"How can you be so dense?"
Itch.io did not immediately respond to GamesIndustry.biz with regards to whether blockchain and NFT games would be banned from appearing and being sold on the platform altogether.
Itch joins a series of games platforms to express their positions on NFT implementation. Last year, Valve announced that it won't allow blockchain-based games or titles that feature NFTs onto Steam.
Meanwhile, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney welcomed blockchain and NFT games onto the Epic Game Store, "provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by the appropriate group."
