Isotx has announced the launch of its CrosuS software application, which enables PC gamers to keep their games up-to-date with the latest patches, mods and other content.
The tool, which started out as a mod 'jukebox' works with a number of existing consumer software applications, including Steam and Xfire and works by gathering a list of content updates available for any games on a user's hard drive.
Vincent van Geel, founder of Isotx, told GamesIndustry.biz what he feels is the application's main assets. "CrosuS is unique as it focuses on user driven content," he said.
"It allows people who are interested in experimenting with amateur or indie stuff, but normally wouldn't since it destroys their clean system with weird install files, to be able to.
"Other tools like Xfire, focus on being the best game-tool with plenty of compelling features, Steam is focused on distributing commercial games, and CrosuS is a content distribution and sharing tool for mods - games, maps, and tools."
The CrosuS client also allows you to install and play any updates directly, and is freely downloadable, although in order to browse content you will need to register - a move which won't make the company any money in the short term.
"At the moment we don't, but hopefully soon with advertisement and micropayments, though we first want to build out a strong user base before focussing on those things."
The team behind the application has some experience in the creation of conversions based on Command & Conquer and Half-Life, and is now working on a new title, Iron Grip: Warlord, which blends the first-person shooter and real-time strategy genres and will be released via CrosuS in Q1.
