iPhone 5 sees 2m pre-orders in 24 hours
Apple's new device scores "phenomenal" customer response
The new Apple iPhone has beaten previous records and received over 2 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours of availability.
"iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal," said Philip Schiller, senior VP of worldwide marketing.
"iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we've ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do."
The device won't go on sale until September 21, but pre-orders have already surpassed the number of launch devices available. The device was officially unveiled on September 12, and pre-orders went live two days later.
The 2 million figure doubles the previous record set by the iPhone 4s.
