iPad sales pass 1 million
Apple tablet reaches milestone sales more than twice as fast as iPhone
Sales of the iPad have passed the 1 million mark after just 28 days, reaching the milestone more than twice as fast as the iPhone according to Apple.
Apple claim that iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the iBookstore.
Over 5000 new apps have been created specifically for the iPad, although the device will also run almost all of the 200,000 App Store downloads already available for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Videogame companies have been quick to support the device, with publishers ranging from Gameloft to Sega, Electronic Arts and THQ all backing the format.
"One million iPads in 28 days - that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," said CEO Steve Jobs. "Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers."
The iPad was launched in North America on April 3, with a delayed European launch now not expected until the end of May. A specific date will be announced on May 10.
