International App Conference & AppJam
AppXtra! "surgeries" to explore issues facing start-up developers.
Dundee, Scotland, October 25th, 2010. The International AppConference has added a brand new component to its world-beating programme. AppXtra! Is a series of evening surgeries, exploring the issues facing new developers and start-up companies in the creative industries.
Hosted by experienced speakers from AppConference partners including Hungry Boy, Sooper Double D and Sliced Bread, the AppXtra surgeries will cover issues including:
Session 1 – Creative Industry Start-Ups - Monday 8 th Nov, 7pm
Scott Downie of Hungry Boy & Hungry Boy Productions will lead the session giving open and frank advice about starting up your own business in today's tough climate and look at cost effective to cut the risk of your new foray into the creative industries.
Session 2 - Design & Illustration - Monday 8 th November, 8pm
Lyall Bruce of Sooper Double D will lead a session based around the design and illustration aspects of creative development.
Session 3 - Small Development Programming - Tuesday 9 th November, 7pm
This session will explore implementing successful programming project management for smaller scale, rapid turnaround projects.
Session 4 – Sliced Bread - Tuesday 9 th of November, 8pm
Hosted by Sliced Bread, the creative informal think tank, this session is open for topics - where the crowd can bring any subject to the table and quiz the creative industry professionals and find out what tricks and techniques they use to get ahead!
Andy Mackenzie, Project Manager: Centre for Creative & Digital Industries for Dundee College, organisers of the AppConference and AppJam, said, “AppXtra builds on the incredibly strong speakers, panels and discussions to incorporate sessions aimed specifically at new start-ups and young high growth companies, providing insight and practical information from organisations which have been through the process themselves.”
The international AppConference, which will run alongside the 48 hour development challenge AppJam, is part-funded by the Interreg 'Creative City Challenge' project ( www.creative-city-challenge.net ).
Created by Dundee College and supported by industry partners, the three day AppConference is an event looking at the creation and development of applications for new platforms such as the iPad, iPhone, Android and Facebook.
It promises to explore the issues facing the new generation of developers, creating applications for some of the world's largest and most rapidly evolving platforms.
The AppXtra sessions are free to all delegates and AppJam competitors.
Tickets for AppCon can be purchased at an early bird price of £99 (plus VAT) until October 4, available for £125 thereafter.
Tickets including the NeoN digital arts festival are also available at an early bird price of £150 (plus VAT), or £175 after October 4.
