Intel settles NVIDIA legal wrangles
And chip-maker will also pay graphics specialist $1.5b in new five-year licensing deal
Intel has announced that it has settled its ongoing litigation with graphics specialist NVIDIA, ending a two-year row over patents in a move which will allow the latter firm to create products for use with Intel processors.
The resolution also signalled the start of a new five-year deal between the companies that will see Intel handed NVIDIA licensing rights for $1.5 billion.
"This agreement ends the legal dispute between the companies, preserves patent peace and provides protections that allow for continued freedom in product design," said Doug Melamed, Intel senior VP and general counsel. "It also enables the companies to focus their efforts on innovation and the development of new, innovative products."
The previous licensing agreement between the two companies had been set to expire in a few weeks' time.
