Intel Extreme Masters
Championships to take place at CeBIT.
Cologne, February 23, 2011 – Turtle Entertainment, the leading company in the field of competitive gaming, together with Intel, the world’s leader in silicon innovation, presents the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship – the grand finale of the most prominent international league in video games. The event will take place on March 1 – 5, at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany the largest IT expo in the world. After seven months of rivalry and a series of live events around the globe the best professional gamers from Europe, Asia and America will clash for the title of the World Champion and a share of 130,000 US Dollars – a portion of 400,000 US Dollars, which is the total prize purse in this season of the league. All the matches of the tournament will be played on the Intel® Core™ i7 processor Extreme Edition-based PCs.
Intel Extreme Masters, a global league of the video game champions, is coming towards the end of its fifth season. After Global Challenges in Shanghai and Cologne, the American Championship in New York, the European Championship in Kiev and the Asian Championship played online, 84 of the world’s best gamers will meet in Hanover to determine the next World Champions in computer games. The list of participants includes such eSports celebrities like Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang, team Fnatic from Sweden or Gregory ‚IdrA‘ Fields. The competition will be held in three disciplines: Counter-Strike 1.6, Quake Live and Starcraft 2, in which the players will fight in Hanover for the title, trophy, medals and high prize money.
Apart from the World Championship competition, the Intel Extreme Masters event at CeBIT will also hold an invitational tournament in League of Legends. Four world’s best teams will compete for their share of 13,500 US Dollars. All the matches of the first live international League of Legends tournament in Europe will be broadcasted on a dedicated stream of the ESL’s web-TV service, ESL TV. The event, next to the World Championship competition, will take place in the ‘Intel Extreme Masters Hall‘ (hall 23) at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany.
CeBIT is the world's largest trade fair for digital IT and communication solutions. Last year it attracted over 330,000 visitors, 5,000 journalists and bloggers and over 4,100 exhibitors from 68 countries. The fair hosts the Intel Extreme Masters event for the fifth time.
ESL TV, ESL’s web-TV service, will report live from the venue throughout the entire event. For the first time the show will be produced in High Definition. At www.esl.tv all eSports fans can follow the action in Intel Extreme Masters Hall at CeBIT on at least eight different streams in English, German, Polish, Swedish, Russian and Chinese.
