Infinity Ward: Numbers for Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition will be strictly limited
Requests from retailers to up production are denied
Numbers of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition, which will come with a functioning pair of night vision goggles, will be kept strictly limited, according to Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling.
"We've already been asked by retailers to up the production numbers due to demand, which we immediately denied," he told IGN.
"We decided from the beginning that we want this to be for the hardcore fans and early adopters. The fact that it is actually limited is one of the coolest parts, which is why we've individually numbered every copy."
Special editions of other games, Halo 3 for instance, have generally been plentiful. As a result, copies have ended up retailing for the same, or a similar, price to the normal retail version - a situation Infinity Ward appears to be trying to avoid with just one run of its Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition planned.
The limited edition version will be sold exclusively in the UK by HMV, as we revealed last month. Available for consumers to pre-order now, it is to retail at GPB 119.99 and comes with several extras, including a token allowing the download of the original Call of Duty, and a SteelBook case.
Prior to deciding this is what the special edition would include however, Bowling revealed a lot of ideas were discussed within the team.
"We had a lot of really cool ideas, but nothing ever topped night vision goggles. We started out small and the longer we spent going around the table and asking the community for input the more and more insane it became.
"It started out with just a cool stylised case with a fake flashbang and some dogtags, but everyone does dogtags and cool cases. We wanted something that blew you way," he said.
