In Search of India's Commando Gamer
30 September 2004 - Bangalore has been a hive of activity over the past few days as crowds thronged the N-Gage QD tour bus, eager to sign up for the N-Gage QD gaming championship and win cash prizes of up to Rs.1,000,000 (approximately SGD$37,000) by being the highest scorer in the Commando series.
Developed by SL Interactive, mobile game developers based in Singapore, the Commando series is a turn-based strategy that puts players in the boots of a one-man army who must overcome hordes of enemy forces given the limited arsenal.
Kicking off the tournament in India and covering 47 cities, including Bangalore, players are required to slug it out Rambo style by playing the Commando series on the N-Gage QD in the Bronze, Silver and Gold rounds. Each round represents one episode of Commando and participants are required to clear each round before proceeding to the next. Competition promises to be rife as each participant is only given one attempt to attain his or her personal best.
A total of 400 top scorers from the Bronze round will be selected for the Silver round which will be held in Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Calcutta respectively. Mumbai will be hosting the Gold round at the end of October in which the top two will be crowned India's gaming icons.
Apart from being the first APAC developer to have its Commando series selected as a competitive platform for the Nokia N-Gage QD, SL Interactive has also rolled out its mobile turn-based combat strategy game for Motorola and Sony Ericsson mobile platforms.
