The International Game Developers Association has announced the formation of a new special interest group within the organisation, with the Mobile-SIG being created to address the needs of the mobile gaming market.
The Mobile-SIG will provide a shared ground to developers, publishers, researchers and aggregators in the mobile game space, and the group has a number of activities planned which will leverage its unique position as an independent body in the marketplace.
Among these is the launch of a new mobile e-zine which will cover key issues in the sector, including focuses on successful game launches and discussion of different methods of marketing; and the creation of a series of white papers on new technologies, value chain relationships and the differences in fixed and mobile development studios.
"The Mobile-SIG will serve as a central resource for discussion of the unique opportunities and requirements of mobile games," according to independent technologies Kurt Uhlir, who will chair the new group. "All members of the mobile games value chain must start to discuss the consumer needs, technical limitations, resources and technologies from related fields and new models for interacting with the end-user."
