"We are really excited by the strong response that we've
received from both the labels and a major entertainment
retailer like Virgin Megastores," said Bernard Ross, Director
of GameTunes. "We are confident that we are not only reaching
fans in a new way, but also building a new distribution
channel. Our goal is to bring the point of sale experience of
music to game centers in the same way Starbucks has done so
successfully with their coffee bars."
"Virgin Megastores has recently expanded its offer to include
a deeper selection of video game merchandise, so this is an
ideal opportunity. We are excited to expand our reach into
the gaming community through this very targeted music
promotion with GameTunes," said Roger Ritchie, Senior
Marketing Manager, Virgin Entertainment Group, North
America.
Known for initiating and co-organizing more than 200 player
events a year for today's best games like Battlefield 2, Call
of Duty 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and The Lord of the Rings:
The Battle for Middle-earth II, iGames views its expansion
into music with GameTunes as a natural evolution.
"Video game culture is youth culture - and so is music," said
Mark Nielsen, Executive Director of iGames. "With our unique
network of more than 500 game centers, we offer a direct link
to a viral community of young people who are equally
passionate about music and interactive entertainment."
