iGames Announces Winners of Intel $5K Open, Sponsored by Intel, in Association with CEVO

First in Series of Six National eSports Events: $40K Competitions Taking Place This Summer at 40+ Game Centers Featuring Today's Top Competitive Games

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, June 28, 2006-iGames, the world's leading game center organization, today announced the results of the Intel $5K Open, held Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25. Sponsored by Intel, in Association with CEVO, the Intel $5K Open was the opening round of iGames' first-ever Intel-sponsored competitions, comprising a 6-month series of tournaments and other special events to be held at 40+ iGames member centers across North America, featuring today's top competitive games, including Counter-Strike 1.6 and Call of Duty® 2.

After a hard-fought day of 5v5 competition during the Saturday LAN competition, each center was able to name a team that would be competing in the WAN portion of the event on Sunday. Starting as early as 7:00 am for the Hawaiian team ZoneGaming, eight teams set forward to compete and claim the title of Intel $5K CS Open Champion and walk away with the $1,500.00 1st place prize.

As the day progressed, there were several upsets, and several matches went into overtime. By nightfall, only United 5 and Confederacy were still standing. Confederacy won the upper bracket after winning two tough matches versus MugNMouse and Basikz earlier that day, while United 5, after loosing to Basikz in the 2nd round of the upper bracket, had to scrape back into the hunt after a near overtime win vs. phatfish in the lower bracket 3rd round. In the end, coming back from the osers' bracketUnited 5 was able to pull out the victory over Confederacy by winning two matches in a row, and thus claim the championship and the $1,500.00 1st prize.
