IAC acquires majority stake in GarageGames

InterActiveCorp is today expect to announce it has acquired a majority stake in GarageGames as it prepares to launch a new gaming site InstantAction.

InterActiveCorp is today expected to announce it has acquired a majority stake in GarageGames as it prepares to launch a new gaming site called InstantAction.

According to the the Wall Street Journal, InstantAction will offer 3D web browser games, with a beta phase set to begin shortly and a full launch early next year.

IAC owns over 60 media brands including Match.com, Ask.com and Ticketmaster.

According to the report, users will be able to play sophisticated 3D games without the need for additional software. Instant Action is set to experiment with a number of business models including subscriptions, advertising and virtual currency.

Garage Games provides the Torque Game Engine, which has been used by Vivendi, NCsoft and NASA, and has developed Marble Blast Ultra for Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service, as well as other projects.
