About the HOYLE® brand
Over 200 years ago Edmond Hoyle was the first person to fully document how card games should be played – essentially creating the first globally-recognized ‘Authorized Card Game Rules’. Edmond was an English writer, born in 1672, living most of his adult life in London where he was a barrister. During his time there he began tutoring the ‘upper classes’ in the game of Whist and subsequently published a pamphlet on the subject. Due to the huge success of this pamphlet he officially wrote and printed it in 1742. Following this, Hoyle produced further books on gaming and the rules involved – each was hugely successful.
