Hothead Games Wins Canadian New Media Award
Company Recognized As Most Promising New Company of the Year
TORONTO - Jun 06, 2007 The Canadian New Media Awards (CNMA) has recognized Hothead Games as the Most Promising New Company of the Year at their annual awards ceremony. The company was presented with the prestigious Pixel award in recognition of its achievements in new media.
Hothead Games is best known for its upcoming PC- based episodic comedy adventure game Penny Arcade Adventure, based on the popular online comic strip and overseen by industry legend Ron Gilbert. The company's second game in development is Swarm (working title), a truly innovative technical combination of 'swarm management' gameplay with sophisticated 'machine learning' artificial intelligence. The Swarm concept has already emerged as one of the 4 finalists from a field of nearly 70 entrants in the Telefilm Great Canadian Video Game Competition. Hothead's final game project is a co-development with Cambrian House called Gwabs Desktop Fighter in which players compete against each other directly on their Windows desktop.
Joint CEO's Vlad Ceraldi and Steve Bocska were excited to receive the prestigious award. "We were surprised and flattered to even be nominated," said Bocska. "To be recognized by our peers and actually win is a great honor for our whole company." According to Ceraldi, "Awards like this are a collective achievement. We could have never gotten this far without the hard work of our dedicated and experienced team."
The 2007 CNMA winners were selected by a jury of industry peers and higher education institutions in new media from across the country from hundreds of entries submitted in featured categories (seven product and eight individual or company) that showcase the world-class skills of the new media industry's top talent, services and products. More than 400 guests at the seventh annual awards gala celebrated the "geek chic" of the new media industry with a Nerd's Nite Out theme, complete with an interactive art and music wall and live blogging.
