Horizon Chase wins Best Game at BIG Festival

Acclaimed retro racer from Brazilian studio Aquiris takes the top honour

Aquiris Game Studio's Horizon Chase was voted Best Game at this year's BIG Festival Awards, beating out competition from international hits like Superhot and Ape Out.

Aquiris, an independent developer based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, released Horizon Chase on iOS and Android last year. Since then, the retro-styled racer has received strong reviews and numerous awards - with last night's BIG Festival win just the latest in a string of accolades. Aquiris business director Sandro Manfredini also received an individual honour at the ceremony.

Other big winners included the Uruguayan developer Ironhide Game Studio, which received Best Latin American Game for Kingdom Rush Origins, and Rockhead Games' Starlit Adventures, which was named Best Brazilian Game.

The Popular Jury Award, which was selected by attendees of the BIG Festival, was given to Sinergia's Deed, a business simulation with a focus on environmental sustainability.

The other BIG Festival winners are listed below:

  • Best Educational Game: Optikammer (Optikammer)
  • Best Environmental Game: Cloud Chasers (Blindflug Studios)
  • Best Sound: Ape Out (Gorilla Loves Company)
  • Best Innovation: Inversus (Hypersect)
  • Best Narrative: Late Shift (CtrlMovie)
