Heavenly Sword™ Emotionally Engages PS3 Audience
Havok Complete™ injects new standards of interactivity and realism
Dublin 25th September 2007: Heavenly Sword, the groundbreaking emotionally engaging next generation title from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Ninja Theory, has hit the shelves with the assistance of Havok, the premier provider of interactive software and services to digital creators in the games and movie industries. Heavenly Sword is released exclusively for Sony Computer Entertainment's PLAYSTATION®3.
Heavenly Sword, a beautiful martial arts drama, combines the best of video games and blockbuster movies allowing for an incredible gaming experience with amazing cinematic visuals. The doomed heroine, Nariko, has to take up the Heavenly Sword to save her people from the evil King Bohan. The game offers an original free style combat system, combining a range of options with one on one fighting, opposing battle squads and coming face to face with thousands of soldiers, while the Heavenly Sword can transform between three stances, speed, power and range offering different types of game play.
The game was developed using Havok Complete, a combination of Havok's next generation game physics SDK (Havok Physics) and the full featured, integrated animation system (Havok Animation). These systems allow players to sweep debris against opponents, kick over tables to cut off an oncoming surge of enemies and throw opponents into objects within the game such as scenery or other enemies. In total, the player experiences large scale destruction of enemies and environments.
"Havok Complete allowed us to enhance game-play in Heavenly Sword by enabling us to create characters that responded to a complex physical world, with a rich set of physical interactions. The characters respond in a convincing way to physical forces they experience, such as getting back up in a realistic manner when they have fallen down or negotiating obstacles they encounter." said Mike Ball, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Ninja at Ninja Theory.
"Additionally we were extremely happy with the ability of Havok Complete to fully utilize the spectrum of available processing power on the PLAYSTATION®3 CELL processor. As developers, it truly enabled us to create the level of destruction you would expect from a next-generation martial arts epic, especially in scenes with high character count."
"Heavenly Sword is a fantastic game on a number of fronts. An emotionally rendering storyline, a beautiful heroine, a wide range of villains, epic scale destruction, in a beautiful environment, with the realism of Hollywood visuals offers the player an incredible gaming experience, especially on PLAYSTATION®3." said David O'Meara, CEO of Havok. "This game is a great example of how a talented development team can use cutting edge physics and animation technology to bring games to a whole new level and leverage the power of Havok's PLAYSTATION®3 optimizations. We are very proud to be involved in the latest evolution of this next generation console game."
Ends.
