Halo: Reach helps double UK Xbox sales

Hardware sales up 99% week-on-week, according to Chart-Track

The much-hyped launch of Halo: Reach helped to double sales of Xbox in the UK last week, according to official chart monitor Gfk-ChartTrack.

Director Dorian Bloch revealed to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon that Bungie's shooter has had a "marked effect on hardware sales" with Xbox "up 99 percent" for the week ending September 18.

Halo: Reach, which launched last Tuesday, September 14, shifted an estimated 300,000 copies in its first 24 hours at UK retail, and went on to enjoy the fifth biggest-selling launch week ever, according to Gfk-ChartTrack data.

While Microsoft will be encouraged by the boost in Xbox sales, it falls well short of the 1,000 percent increase. fuelled by the launch of the Xbox 360 S SKU earlier in the summer.

GamesIndustry.biz understands that sales of the limited-edition Halo-themed Xbox SKU, exclusive to GAME, played a significant part in the sales jump.
