Veteran designers responsible for work on the Halo and Battlefield franchises have announced the formation of new outfit Tyrant Studios.

Hardy LeBel leads the new studio, with a CV that includes work on Halo and its sequel, as well as positions for Microsoft Game Studios on Jade Empire and Dungeon Siege 2, and Zipper's Socom titles.

The company's lead designer, Anders Hejdenberg, has worked on Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Battlefield 2142 and Futurama.

"Weâre excited to announce the formation of Tyrant and share our vision for the future of game development," commented LeBel.

"Our first project is the result of months of preproduction and planning — and with our collected experience, we believe weâll change the way games are made."

The Tyrant team consists of seven members who between them have also worked on Activision's Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Rockstar's Midnight Club 2 and Microsoft's Viva Piñata: Party Animals.

"It has been fantastic to see the results of bringing together such a passionate, creative, and highly motivated team of this calibre," added Hejdenberg.

"We've managed to create a concept that we believe will become a trendsetter — not only in games, but in mainstream media culture as well."

The company has said it is in discussions with publishers for its first original project.
