Guitar Hero II is Xbox 360 GAMER magazine's first 10 out of 10 game

The UK's leading Xbox 360 print magazine hands out its first ever Platinum award in 24 issues to Activision's genre-defining music sim

27/03/06 - Uncooked Media announced today that the latest issue of 360 GAMER magazine will be the first time ever that a game scores 10 out of 10 in its review section. 360 GAMER - which has an established reputation for a firm but fair stance to scoring - has only ever awarded a handful of games a maximum score of 9 in 23 issues (including The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fight Night Round 3). However, the game that has set a new standard is Activision/Harmonix' fan-favourite music sim, Guitar Hero II.

The extensive five-page review of Guitar Hero II appears in Xbox 360 GAMER issue #24, on sale Thursday 29 March, and is written by one of the world's leading Guitar Hero experts, Luke Albigés, who has even "performed" the original game at a special busking session in Leicester Square Underground station.

Stu Taylor, Group Editor, Uncooked Media said:

"When we launched, we agreed that no game was ever likely to score a 10 so early on in the Xbox 360's life - it takes a good year or two for developers to realise the potential of any console. However, as Luke Albigés says in his review: 'Guitar Hero II is a supremely empowering example of why we started playing games in the first place and, as such, can be seen as an essential purchase for anyone that likes music, games and common sense decisions'."

Leo Tan, Senior PR Executive, Activision European Publishing said:

"We're overjoyed with the result. We feel that Guitar Hero II on the Xbox 360 is the ultimate version, with its online leaderboards and the potential for the series to grow through Xbox Live's excellent Live Marketplace, and this score really backs that up."

360 GAMER #24 leads with an exclusive cover feature and hands-on playtest of THQ's 'Ghost Recon beater' Frontlines: Fuels of War. Plus there is also the exclusive UK review of Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, plus independent and unbiased reviews of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, NBA Street Homecourt 2007, Championship Manager 2007 and more.

Features this issue cover the secret online world of Phantasy Star Universe and a retrospective look at ten years of the Armored Core mecha robot franchise. Plus there are previews of Shadowrun, Bioshock, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Mass Effect, Spider-Man 3, Battlefield: Bad Company and more.

Xbox 360 GAMER was launched by Uncooked Media in October 2005, and is the only UK Xbox 360 magazine published every three weeks. It also offers unbeatable value with a standard retail price of £2.99 for 132 pages, and is available through the likes of WHSmith, Tescos, HMV, Gamestation, Borders and newsagents. Xbox 360 GAMER is a member of the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
