GTA IV most rented game of 2008

Rockstar's blockbuster title beats out Call of Duty 5 and Halo 3

Grand Theft Auto IV has topped the list of most rented videogames of 2008, according to data collected by Rentrak and published in its Home Video Essentials videogame rental data report.

Rockstar's title broke sales records on its first day on sale and throughout the year beat out other blockbuster games to assume the top of the rental chart, as reported by GameDaily.

Call of Duty 5: Modern Warfare and Halo 3 came in second and third place, followed by Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Army of Two and Mario Kart Wii in fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was next on the rental list, then Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed and Mario Party 8.

This news comes just after GAME announced plans to launch a subscription based rental service in the UK, which has drawn criticism from some areas of the games industry which question its legitimacy.
