Gran Turismo 5 helps double PS3 sales
Sony enjoys Japanese sales boost, but PSP remains top hardware
Gran Turismo 5 has made its debut at number one in the Japanese software chart, selling 430,000 units including those bundled with the special edition blue PS3.
However, despite more than doubling PS3 sales over last week, the console still didn't topple the PSP from number one in the nation's hardware chart. Whilst PS3 shifted 68,840 units in comparison to last week's 29,058, the PSP sold 75,689 - actually significantly less than last week's total of 96,601.
It was a week of big releases in Japan, with the top three titles all being new entries to the chart - with two more further down the top ten. Quadruple-platinum selling Pokemon Black & White remains in fifth.
It's unlikely that Gran Turismo's reign at number one will last long, however - yesterday saw the launch of Monster Hunter Portable 3 for the PSP. Huge crowds queued outside many of Japan's electronics retailers, with lines of up to 3000 customers reported outside popular shops.
