15th October 2010 - The Golden Joystick Awards is delighted to announce legendary British DJ Norman Jay as the headline act to host the 2010 Golden Joystick Awards after-show.
The after party, in association with Activision’s ultimate mixer of music and friends DJ Hero® 2 , sees British DJ Norman Jay headline with his unique music blend ‘Good Times’ delving into his plentiful record box of deep and diverse music inspirations, past, present and future. Jay, the only UK dj to be awarded an MBE for services to music, has had an illustrious career including being one of the founders of Kiss 100, regular shows on BBC Radio London and his 30th anniversary performing at the Notting Hill Carnival 2010. His trademark party set of rare edits and mixing will deliver a real master class in turntablism for all partygoers.
Also stepping up behind the decks are two top-drawer names that will guarantee the after party kicks off in true party style.
BBC 1Xtra’s Rampage, headed by Mike Anthony and Treble T, are recognised in UK club land as one of the most consistent and successful urban music specialists to date. Since their launch in 1990, London-based Rampage have enjoyed phenomenal success including UK and international club appearances, radio DJ’ing and presenting. Rampage’s radio show on BBC Radio 1Xtra is currently on air from 10am– 1pm Monday– Friday, with the highest listenership on the station.
The award-winning Steve Redux kicked off his DJ career in 2002. As part of The Outlaws - he crafted a weekly mix for Kiss FM, won a Mixmag contest and toured the world - rocking dance floors from Ibiza to New York. With a monthly residency at Bristol's Blowpop - Redux is fresh from playing with DJ Yoda, Erol Alkan and Orbital and promises a very special Joysticks set, with some prime wedding disco cuts amongst the usual electro, house and hip-hop.
Norman Jay commented: “I’m really excited to play this year’s Golden Joysticks after show following last year’s DJ Hero appearance from DJ Shadow. I heard he caused quite a stir so I’m looking forward to turning the DJ Hero 2 after show into an even bigger party.”
The ever-growing Golden Joystick Awards has been the ultimate accolade in gaming since 1982 and is now recognised as the biggest and most popular gaming awards on the planet. 1,223,646 votes were cast by gamers in 2009 as the Joysticks scooped its own honour, being named ‘Worlds most popular video games awards’ by Guinness World Records.

Featuring 16 gamer-voted categories, the event is the world’s longest-running video games awards, first held back in 1982. With just a few tables remaining, 1000 guests will be entertained at the ceremony. Votes cast now at www.goldenjoystick.com will decide who scoops a prestigious Golden Joystick when the winners are announced at the ceremony at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on Friday, 29th October. Voting for the awards closes on October 25th 2010.

About Norman Jay
Norman Jay MBE is an innovative and pioneering British DJ. He first came to prominence playing unlicensed or 'warehouse' parties in the early 1980s, such as Shake 'n' Fingerpop. Born in Notting Hill, London, Jay established himself through the London pirate radio station Kiss FM, on which he presented shows alongside founders Gordon Mac and George Power. Kiss 100 was launched legally in September 1990 and Norman hosted the first of what became his legendary 'Musiquarium' shows. Shortly after he joined Gilles Peterson at his newly created and highly influential label Talkin' Loud.
After a long involvement with Kiss, Norman joined BBC London in April 1997, where his 'Giant 45' show gained a loyal following across the globe up until February 2008.
His Good Times Sound System is a major attraction to many music fans who attend the two day August bank holiday Notting Hill Carnival. Good Times now attracts an estimated 3,000 revellers a day during the carnival. Good Times has also extended into a series of compilation CDs.
Jay describes himself as a primarily house music DJ, but the Good Times sound includes classic 70s and 80s funk, soul and jazz-funk, previous carnival tracks have typically included Estelle's 1980; and tracks featured in recent radio shows have included Billy Griffin's Hold Me Tighter In The Rain and more contemporary tracks in the form of Heavy's track Wonderlove.
On BBC Radio 2, he presents the Funk Factory which goes out every 6 weeks of the year. In addition to this, Norman was one of 20 DJs who played one track each at the 2005 BBC Worldwide Awards which produced three specials for BBC Radio 1 over Christmas and New Year, hosted by Gilles Peterson.
He is an established regular at the Big Chill festival, where his Sunday afternoon slot on the main stage is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the weekend.
Norman Jay was awarded the MBE for services to music in 2002.
