Nominees assembled for Downloadable Game Of The Year.

For immediate distribution

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, Battlefield 1943 and Assassin’s Creed 2: Bonfire of the Vanities are in contention for prestigious Golden Joystick Award

10th September 2010 Three of 2010’s biggest downloadable videogames are fighting it out for the Downloadable Game of the Year award in the 28th annual Golden Joystick Awards, the world’s biggest video games awards event.

Over 680,000 votes have already been cast in this year’s competition and with just over one month’s voting to go, the competition is hotting up to determine the year’s favourite downloadable video game.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies, the hugely popular undead-slaying iphone version of the original PC gameplay mode is in contention for the award alongside the action-packed online multiplayer FPS Battlefield 1943. Assassin’s Creed 2: Bonfire of the Vanities, the action-adventure fantasy game set in Renaissance Italy completes the category’s heavyweight trio.

The downloadable contenders also face stiff competition from an impressively diverse field of renowned franchises including Grand Theft Auto, LittleBigPlanet and FIFA. It’s the first time the category has been contended at the Joysticks and following a classic year for downloadable games, it looks to be amongst the strongest fields and the most difficult from which to predict a winner.
