Golden Joystick Awards 2009

"Legendary US turntablist DJ Shadow" and "BBC Radio 1Xtra's Rampage" (gosh we feel old) to perform after the ceremony.

For immediate distribution

21st October 2009 The Golden Joystick Awards is delighted to announce legendary US turntablist DJ Shadow and BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Rampage will perform DJ sets at the after show party following the 27th annual awards ceremony.

Widely credited as a key figure in developing instrumental hip hop, DJ Shadow’s appearance will mark the release of Activision’s DJ Hero by filling the floor at the video games industry’s most-loved awards aftershow party.

Shadow appears as a playable character within DJ Hero and also contributed several mixes to the title. "It's an honour to be represented in DJ Hero, and an equal pleasure to carry the tradition forward in front of my peers and colleagues at the Joysticks after show!"

Josh "Shadow" Davis has been behind some of the most influential albums of the last decade including the widely acclaimed ‘Endtroducing...’ and "The Outsider", "The 4-Track Era Collection" and the debut album by U.N.K.L.E. together with Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft and Mike D of the Beastie Boys.

BBC 1Xtra’s Rampage, headed by Mike Anthony and Treble T, are recognised in UK club land as one of the most consistent and successful urban music specialists to date. Since their launch in 1990 London-based Rampage have enjoyed phenomenal success including UK and international club appearances, radio DJ’ing and presenting. Rampage’s radio show on BBC Radio 1Xtra is currently on air from 10am – 1pm Monday – Friday, with the highest listenership on the station.

Mike Anthony of Rampage, said: “We're really excited about the Joysticks this year. Not only are we stoked to be presenting the 'Best Soundtrack' award on stage, but we also get to play a DJ set on the same bill as the legendary DJ Shadow. The after show party will be off the hook!"

Completing the stellar after show line up is Steve Redux. The award-winning Redux kicked off his DJ career in 2002. As part of The Outlaws – he crafted a weekly mix for Kiss FM, won a Mixmag competition and toured the world, rocking dance floors from Ibiza to New York.

Fresh from playing with 2Many DJs, Erol Alkan and Pete Tong at a BBC Radio One show, Redux promises a very special set for the Joysticks – with some prime wedding disco cuts amongst the usual electro, house and hip-hop.

The 2009 awards are already the most successful in its rich history with a record breaking 1 million votes so far having been cast by gamers in a celebration of the year’s best video games. The Golden Joysticks are the games industry’s most-loved awards and the industry’s standing as a leading mass market form of entertainment looks set to be reinforced by the popularity of 2009’s event.

Emma Parkinson, organiser of the Golden Joystick Award, added: “The Golden Joystick Awards is legendary for many things - not least the after show party. We’re delighted to have DJ Shadow, Rampage and Steve Redux perform - they’ll deliver an unforgettable after show party and one not to be missed!”

Featuring 15 gamer-voted categories, the event is the world’s longest-running video games awards, first held back in 1982. With just a few tables remaining, almost 800 guests will be entertained at the ceremony. Votes cast now at www.goldenjoystick.com will decide who scoops a prestigious Golden Joystick when the winners are announced at the ceremony at London’s Park Lane Hilton on Friday, 30th October. Voting for the awards closes on October 26th 2009.
