Golden Joystick Awards 2009
917,000 votes cast so far with five weeks to go - a new record.
25 September 2009 Voting in this year’s Golden Joystick Awards stands at 917,000 votes and counting, smashing the previous highest voting tally of 856,262 votes cast - confirming 2009 the most successful in the event’s 27 year history.
Along with Future’s own stable of titles promoting the voting process, the event’s mainstream media partners MSN, ShortList and Bliss have also made a big impact in taking voting participation to a wider audience than previous years.
Publishers and retailers have also been motivating their communities to vote in the 15 categories including the prestigious ‘Ultimate Game of the Year’ award.
“The response from consumers of all persuasions has been phenomenal this year. From the hardcore devotees to casual gamers we have seen unprecedented numbers of votes cast for this year’s awards and we’ve still got over 5 weeks of voting to go! It’ll be fascinating to see who comes out on top this year - we aim to make 2009’s Golden Joystick Awards the best yet.” said Emma Parkinson, Publisher at Future UK and organiser of the Golden Joystick Awards.
The Golden Joysticks are the games industry’s most-loved awards. Featuring 15 gamer-voted categories, the event is the world’s longest-running video games awards, first held back in 1982. Votes cast now at www.goldenjoystick.com will directly decide who scoops a prestigious Golden Joystick when the winners are announced in London on Friday, 30th October.
