GLU ANNOUNCES DRIVER™: VEGAS, THE FIRST MOBILE-ONLY GAME BASED ON A CONSOLE FRANCHISE
Tanner’s back in a mobile phone exclusive
SAN MATEO, Calif. and London - August 24, 2005 - Glu Mobile, a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, today announced plans to create and publish DRIVER: VEGAS, a mobile-exclusive game that builds on the success of Glu's No. 1 selling hit, DRIV3R, which was based on a worldwide production and marketing collaboration with Atari.
"With DRIV3R, we were able to make a successful franchise title thrive on the mobile platform," said Chris Meredith, VP publishing for EMEA at Glu Mobile. "The Driver brand has evolved to encompass more than just console, and DRIVER: VEGAS will demonstrate the brand's ability to carry a title exclusively for the mobile phone."
DRIVER: VEGAS will feature a completely new Driver environment, with high-stakes gameplay taking undercover agent Tanner through the streets, casinos and back roads of Las Vegas. Aspects of DRIVER: VEGAS will link DRIV3R with the forthcoming new fourth console installment of the franchise with unlockable cheat-codes embedded in the game.
"The partnership between Atari and Glu has proven to be one of the most progressive in mobile entertainment, with a focus on maintaining a fresh approach to this new platform," said Wim Stocks, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Atari. "Glu is demonstrating the viability of the mobile platform in publishing the first mobile exclusive game based on a console franchise."
The strength of the franchise on mobile is evident in DRIV3R's success. The game continues to be one of Glu's biggest hits. In its first year, it was awarded the IGN Editor's Choice award and was a finalist for GameSpot's Best Mobile Action Game of 2004.
DRIVER: VEGAS will be available internationally in late 2005, with versions available in all major languages. For more information, visit www.glu.com.
