Gene Labs
Beta tester accounts to be won via GameStreamer.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sarasota, Florida (December 15, 2010) – GameStreamer and developer FRONTLINE Studios have teamed up to create an exclusive contest for the arcade game Gene Labs. Top scorers win beta tester accounts with the developer, potentially leading to paid positions.
Winners also receive free games, T-shirts and tote bags. There will be 120 winners overall, with 36 becoming beta testers.
"At FRONTLINE we know what it takes to fully test a game,” says Marcin Michel, CEO of FRONTLINE Studios. “In our in-house Testing House, we've observed during the past few years that the best game testers are the ‘maniac gamers,’ who are absolutely passionate about video games, and at the same time committed to finish each and every game they play.
“That's why we are excited about the Gene Labs contest, where we will be assigning beta tester accounts as the main prize for the best score winners. This game in particular is a great opportunity for any gamers who dream about a professional career, to check for themselves if they are thorough enough to become a game tester and make a living by playing games one day.”
James Downes, GameStreamer’s Head of Strategy & Development, shares FRONTLINE’s excitement about the unique and coveted beta tester account prizes. “Being a maniac gamer myself, I understand how it can feel to want to work in an industry you love. I was one of the lucky ones that actually got in the door,” he says. “When FRONTLINE offered a beta tester position as one of the prizes in our contest, I stopped and thought ‘Oh my Duke Nukem! (or wow, yes)’.
“With the global economy being what it is (and holiday season upon us), I cannot think of a better gift than this. I would have given anything for an opportunity at a game studio,” Downes says.
GameStreamer intends to expand the beta tester program with the help of FRONTLINE Studios and other game studios and publishers. “I believe we can turn something awesome into something epic – a beta tester program for the passionate, hardworking game industry hopefuls,” says Downes.
In the current contest, the goal of Gene Labs players is to launch an anti-virus solution around the microscopic worlds on the screen before the deadly virus infects the healthy cells. There are also mutated cells that need to be captured by the player before the evil virus attacks them. The game has 11 bacteria to choose from.
Gene Labs features endless game play, and FRONTLINE’s testers went through 300 levels to make sure the game is released bug-free. “We are curious how many gamers can accomplish at least 300 levels, and how many levels can be actually finished by the contest's deadline," Michel adds.
The top 10 scorers in each of 11 bacteria categories and an overall category will win prizes. Players can monitor their standings on the leaderboards posted on GameStreamer.com. The contest is open to users worldwide and ends Jan. 28, 2011.
