GCDC: Flagship CEO hints at Hellgate for mobiles

Roper has big plans for new franchise

Speaking at the Leipzig GCDC, Flagship Studios boss Bill Roper has revealed that the company has big plans for new franchise Hellgate: London - hinting that a mobile phone version could be on the way.

"In expanding your empire, there are a few different areas you can go. Obviously, there's other games - you've got additional platforms. If you're building the game on PC, you can think about how it's going to potentially apply to console games, or cellular, or arcade," Roper stated.

"Those are things we think about all the time with the Hellgate IP. It doesn't have to be a port of the game, especially if you're doing something like PC to cellphone... But I think it's great if you can find an application that works well."

Although Roper stopped short of officially announcing plans to produce a mobile version of Hellgate: London, his comments echoed a theme that was prevalent at this year's Leipzig GCDC - there's big money to be made in mobile gaming, and both developers and publishers are starting to sit up and take notice.
