GameStop's ThinkGeek to get first physical store
"Will bring vastly more visibility to the brand and our ever expanding selection of exclusive products"
GameStop is ensuring that ThinkGeek fans can now feel the fabric of that Princess Leia bathrobe they've been longing for, setting up the online brand's first physical retail outlet in Florida on September 25.
"The opening of our first brick and mortar store is a significant milestone for the brand and a great example of how the GameStop acquisition is a win for our customers," said Katy McCarthy, president of ThinkGeek.
"While people know us today as an online retailer, the GameStop connection will bring vastly more visibility to the brand and our ever expanding selection of exclusive products."
GameStop completed its acquisition of ThinkGeek in July in a deal worth a total equity value of around $140 million, including $37 million of cash and cash equivalents.
"GameStop is committed to delivering a great customer experience in the collectibles market and this store is unlike anything that currently exists today," said Mike Buskey, executive vice president and president of US stores at GameStop.
"We are combining the power of the ThinkGeek brand with the retail expertise of GameStop to deliver a new store concept that will amaze and appeal to a broad range of customers from collectors to pop culture fans."
GameStop has said it expects the acquisition to add an immediate incremental $100+ million in annual net sales to its books.
