GamesAid figures

UK games industry charity reports £125,000 raised since October.

GamesAid, the UK games industry charity, today announced that it has raised over £125,000 since October 2008 through a number of industry-led initiatives, alongside the appointments of Andy Payne as Chairman and Sarah Seaby as Vice Chairman. Mark Ward from Bastion and Richard Stickler from Gem Distribution have also been appointed as Trustees.

The staggering figure has been raised for children and young people by a number of leading games industry companies including Codemasters, who raised £102,581 from sales of Colin McRae: DIRT and Eurogamer, who raised £15,982 from sales of tickets for the Eurogamer Expo 2008.

Other recent, notable GamesAid fundraisers include a popular industry poker event by Relentless Software, an auction of Golden Joysticks tickets by Future Publishing, an auction of a life-size Jack Sparrow statue by Disney Interactive Studios, an auction of games promotional merchandise by PC Zone and a sizeable speaking fee contribution from Ian Livingstone, Creative Director at Eidos.

“In these challenging times it really does continue to amaze me that so much great work can be done by so many great people. The money raised is staggering! I would also like to thank Greg Ingham and Andrew Eades for their energy and commitment to get a games industry charity 2.0 launched last year, and welcome aboard Mark and Richard who have helped ESC and GamesAid in the past,” commented Andy Payne, Chairman, GamesAid.
