Games selected as official disciplines for the 2006 Electronic Sports World Cup
Paris - December, 1st 2005. The 4th Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) is set to take place at Paris Bercy From 27 June to 2 July, 2006, with 800 champions representing 50 countries competing in the biggest world electronic sports show that has ever been organized. The best of these will be vying in the finals in front of 15 000 spectators for the prize of $400,000 and a guarantee of worldwide fame! Indeed, the Electronic Sports World Cup, a veritable phenomenon of this generation, enjoys a media following which is steadily growing with each year that goes by. In 2005, the event generated over 150 hours of accumulated broadcasting on 500 channels throughout the world.
Worldwide sports qualifications
Leading up to this unique and truly athletic event, a proper sports league is federating electronic sports with affiliated organisations in 50 countries. Indeed, from January to June 2006, thousands of electronic sports tournaments in the four corners of the globe will see amateurs and professionals compete in the run-up to the world cup selections. Each country will hold its national finals between May and June 2006 and will have a chance to be represented by its champions at Paris Bercy, where the big final show will be held.
The official disciplines (2006 tournaments)
Every year, Games-Services, the founder and organizer of the ESWC, publishes the list of electronic games selected as official disciplines for the competition. This announcement is used in the organisation of thousands of tournaments throughout the world. « We choose these games independently in accordance with their international popularity, their gameplay within the perspective of their use in competitions and their ability to arouse the emotions of public spectators», Matthieu Dallon, Chairman of Games-Services, has indicated.
