To play host to the German final of the World Cyber Games.
Groß-Gerau/Leipzig, 25 March 2009 - In 2009, Leipzig is once again the mecca for the German e-sports scene: as Europe's most important fair for online and mobile games, the GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE is hosting the National Final for the World Cyber Games. Altogether 200 of Germany's best computer and video gamers compete for the national titles and for coveted places in Germany's selection for the Olympic games of e-sport.
Over a period of several months, hundreds of thousands of gamers take part in the qualification round for the German final of the World Cyber Games in Leipzig. At the GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE from 31 July to 2 August 2009, the e-athletes are then up for all the glory and honour - and for a place on the German national team. At the grand final of the World Cyber Games in October this year in Chengdu (China), the national team then competes for the world championship title in various different e-sport disciplines.
At the GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE in Leipzig, spectators can experience Germany's e-sport elite, with many up-and-coming young talents and gaming legends. The best contests will be shown to visitors in a large-screen area, guaranteed to create a gripping atmosphere. In addition, an action-packed programme of events from several partners accompanies the World Cyber Games, treating spectators to endless fun and excitement. Commentary for the matches will be given by various e-sport experts, competently taking the GCO public through events as they happen. The crowning conclusion will be the presentation of the German national team on the Sunday at the fair, 2 August.

The next Grand Final will be in October 2009 in Chengdu (China) where national teams from 80 countries and 800 gamers will compete for medals and prize money worth a total of 500,000 US dollars.

The GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE is the first ever independent platform in Europe for what is currently the most dynamic market in the game industry: browser, client and mobile games. From 31 July to 2 August 2009, gaming providers from all over the world introduce themselves in Leipzig.
The concept for the trade show presents two separate areas. The Business Center is the focus, with qualified matchmaking for trade visitors. A Dialogue Conference is integrated in this section.
