Games Convention Online cancels public event

But trade focus will still remain for event in July

Leipziger Messe has cancelled the planned public event for Games Convention Online, instead focusing on the trade aspects of the show, taking place July 8-10.

According to the organisers there was not enough interest from exhibitors or planned presentations to sustain the event – which last year featured 74 exhibitors in two public-facing halls

"This is a regrettable, but necessary decision," said strategy director Silvana Kuerschner.

The event will still feature a business forum, with more than 30 companies attending and a concentrated focus on matchmaking Asian and European businesses in the online and mobile sectors.

"The GCO is focusing on online gaming and we think that's right, because online is the growth market for games," commented Marc Wardenga, chairman of the GCO advisory council. "We continue to work closely with Leipziger Messe in order to consolidate the GCO as an industry platform."

Games Convention Online 2010 will be held July 8-10 at the Congress Center in Leipzig.
