Games Artist and Animator course
New course for budding artists from DR Studios.
Aspiring video games artists can hone their skills from today with the launch of the Games Artist and Animator course from open learning provider, Train2Game. This course, created by games developer DR Studios, joins Train2Game’s existing Games Developer and Games Design courses and is available from 19th April 2010.
With technology advancing, the tools to create more complex and lifelike art are more accessible than ever before. The visual look of a game is now a key sales feature that can make the difference between success and failure so a skilled games artist is a key part of the development of the industry’s top-selling titles.
The Games Artist and Animator course will teach students the tools and techniques required to become a skilled video games artist and allow them to create immersive 3D environments. Initially, the course covers the basics of Photoshop and 3ds Max, which are the core industry-relevant applications.
During the early stages of the course, students will learn low and high polygon modelling, texture creation and application and rendering techniques. They will then delve into the complexities of animation, timing, spacing, key framing methodologies and the application of this to 3D characters.
Students study at home and can progress at their own pace during the course, so there is no need to give up current work commitments. They have ‘hands-on’ practical time with industry tutors and a full support service is available seven days a week by phone or email.
On completion, students will be awarded a TIGA Games Artist and Animator Diploma. They will also have developed a significant portfolio of work during the course that can be used in interviews.
All the Train2Game courses have been created together with games developer, DR Studios, and are supported by the UK video games trade association, TIGA, who act as the independent awarding and examination body for Train2Game. Portsmouth University and Bedfordshire University have been closely involved in reviewing the course content, with the latter having integrated Train2Game’s content into their own games development courses.
Course Director, Tony Bickley of DR Studios, added, “We’re pleased to announce the Games Artist and Animator course as the latest addition to our portfolio of courses. Skilled video games artists are sought very highly as the visual style of a game really influences the gaming experience. We are confident that the course will help provide an excellent gateway into the industry.”
