Gamers' Voice welcome Keith Vaz's Early Day Motion

Gamers’ Voice, the national computer and video gamer pressure group, has today welcomed Keith Vaz’s new Early Day Motion (EDM) regarding parental awareness of violent video games and their age ratings. Keith Vaz is a former critic of the computer and video games industry and Gamers’ Voice is very happy to note that the former Minister will now constructively engage with it. Gamers’ Voice supports Keith Vaz’s intervention and looks forward to meeting with him to discuss how the ‘pro video games ratings’ agenda can be taken forward.

Gamers’ Voice calls on all gamers, publishers and game developers to throw their support behind the new EDM to highlight this important issue.

Gamers’ Voice will initiate a mass lobbying campaign, contacting every single Member of Parliament asking them to sign the EDM as a sign of their endorsement of this issue.

Gamers’ Voice will be seeking meetings with the relevant Government department on how the group can assist in running a national awareness campaign on video game ratings.

Gamers’ Voice chairman, Paul Gibson, said:

“We are very pleased that Mr Vaz now appears to accept that games are not dangerous forms of media and we agree with him that more should be done to educate gamers and the parents of young gamers about the content of certain games through the BBFC and PEGI ratings systems.

We will lead the campaign to raise awareness about the video game rating system so that parents and guardians can make informed and responsible choices about the video games they purchase for minors.”
