GAME warns of delivery delays following airspace closure
Customers told that UK and European transport restrictions could cause hold ups
GAME has warned its customers that deliveries could be delayed due to the closure of UK and European airspaces following the Icelandic volcano eruption.
The retailer has said on its website: "Please be aware the closure of UK airspace and airspace in parts of Europe unfortunately continues to affect the transport of mail by air and could cause delays with delivery of orders.
"This is impacting upon some UK domestic mail and mail due to either leave or enter the country via UK airports."
The potential delays for customers in the UK follow shipment problems experienced by Mindscape, the Australian distributor for Konami.
According to the company, the air travel situation will cause the delay of several of its releases in the country, including Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Puzzle Chronicles and Karaoke Revolution, while future releases Scene It? Twilight, GTi Club Supermini Festa and Sports Island could also be delayed should the disruptions continue.
"Due to the second eruption of the Iceland volcano and further disruption to flights, our shipment of Wii stock will be delayed," a Mindscape spokesperson told Kotaku.
"One of the world's leading freight forwarders, Expeditors, has advised this morning that, due to the substantial freight shipments that are building up around the world, they are uncertain how quickly the backlog will be cleared."
However, while the volcanic aftermath takes its toll on some operations and continues to wreak havoc for the airlines and stranded travellers, it is estimated that just 1 per cent of the UK's actual trade, by volume, is carried by air.
According to a BBC report, a significant disruption is only likely to be felt by traders of perishable goods such as food and flowers, which depend more heavily on air freight.
