Game Tunnel's Top 100 Indie Game Recognition!
Shrapnel Games' Titles Score High With Game Tunnel!
News Release For Immediate Release
Hampstead, NC, 17 July 2007
Game Tunnel, founded in 2002 and considered to be one of the leading websites dedicated to the world of independent gaming, has compiled a listing of their choices for Top 100 Independent Games of the past three years, picked from amongst 458(!) reviews. Placing a solid number three and number four is Land of Legends and Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, both published by Shrapnel Games, and developed by Tiny Hero Studios and Digital Eel, respectively.
Shrapnel Games would like to thank Game Tunnel for its recognition of the quality gameplay that is to be found in Land of Legends and Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space. Being in the top one hundred out of the hundreds of reviews published in the past three years is a honor itself, but to place in the top ten--and so high in the top ten--is even more amazing. From all of us, and the developers, a mighty thank you!
Of Land of Legends, Game Tunnel contributor Seth Robinson (creator of the well-known Dink Smallwood RPG) had the following to say:
"Can it be? An indie strategy game with an actual single player campaign?! Each of the eight playable races requires distinctively different strategies; each mission teaches you something new. With only four units per race I initially thought this may be turn based strategy oversimplified - but actually this allows you to predict and plan your movement to an extremely accurate degree. The well laid out GUI puts all relevant information at your fingertips. Highly recommended."
And on Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space he said:
"Digital Eel has taken SAIS and reworked every single part of it to be prettier and more intuitive. It's kind of a card game based in space but with cool real-time fight scenes. There is something truly addictive about trying to score a warp unit, weapons, allies, and exploring/beating the hell out of everything. I've played it a ton and I'm still seeing new things, for instance, there is a ship thief who can actually be captured if you hold the correct item. Must play one more game."

Land of Legends ( www.shrapnelgames.com/Tiny_Hero/Land_of_Legends/1.htm) is a turn-based fantasy strategy title that, as one recently released Hollywood movie would say, is more than meets the eye. At first glance Land of Legends appears to be a rather straightforward beer and pretzels wargame, set in an anime world that would be right at home on a Gameboy. Dig a little deeper and you'll discover why noted strategy writer Bruce Geryk said of it in Computer Games Magazine, "What it does best is present you with interesting choices each turn, using an interface that's so unobtrusive you wonder why every strategy interface can't be this good."
With a strong single-player campaign, eight different races (all with various special abilities), Land of Legends offers players a wealth of strategy. On top of that is a skirmish generator for playing against the AI, and a fully-integrated matchmaking tool to battle against other sentient lifeforms online for free. With an average playtime of under an hour, Land of Legends is also the perfect fix for lunch hour strategy jonesing.
Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space
( www.shrapnelgames.com/digital_eel/weird_worlds/1.htm), winner of the IGF 2006 Innovation In Audio Award, and Game Tunnel's Adventure/Quest Game of the Year for 2005, is another fast-playing, infinitely deep game that is a perfect lunch time diversion. Be the starship captain of a corsair, science vessel, or warship, and explore the wonders of Sector Prime. Discover new worlds, forgotten civilizations, strange artifacts, and other oddities of the universe. Battle hostile aliens in real-time, or try to achieve your mission
without any bloodshed.
Every game in Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is different, and with an average play time of roughly twenty minutes, players can chart their course to infinity and beyond in less time than it takes to watch an episode of Stargate SG-1. Additionally, a tactical starship board game based on Weird Worlds will soon be warping to a kitchen table near you.
Both Land of Legends and Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space have received numerous accolades since their release, in addition to their inclusion on the Game Tunnel Top 100 Independent Games list. They are also both on sale until July 22nd as part of the Shrapnel Games Eight Year Anniversary special.
