Game Expo Will Appeal To Diverse Triangle Audience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 15, 2006
North Carolina has more than 30 companies in the game
development industry, many located in the Triangle area, a
hub for simulation and game development. Representatives from
many of these companies will attend Wake Tech Community
College's digital game expo on Friday and Saturday, June 23
and 24. There will be something for everyone at this expo -
the Triangle's version of the recent E3 (Electronic
Entertainment Expo held in Los Angeles), the only digital
game expo held on the southeast coast.
For game developers, this is a chance to acquire leading-edge
professional development through seminars and workshops
conducted by industry leaders and keynote speeches from Jerry
Heneghan, CEO of Cary's Virtual Heroes Inc., and Jason Della
Rocca, executive director of the International Game
Development Association, a society committed to advancing the
careers of game developers. One of last year's expo
participants said, "Instructors were really open to talking
to you after the class and via e-mail, so it [the expo
conference] was great from a gaining contacts perspective as
well."
For those who are considering a career in game development,
the expo will provide a firsthand look at both the excitement
and variety of the industry. It is also an opportunity to
learn more about Wake Tech's new simulation and game
development associate degree program to begin this
fall.
For the general public, from granddads who bring the
grandkids on a fun outing to sophisticated game players, the
conference and expo mean flashy demonstrations and a
smorgasbord of information. It will feature industry trends,
such as the fast-growing use of serious games like America's
Army, which is used by the U.S. military. Virtual Heroes
Inc., the company that produces America's Army, will host an
America's Army tournament 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and 11
a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.
The expo portion of the event does not require registration
and is free and open to all ages. The cost of the two-day
conference is $85 ($42.50 for college students with ID),
which covers four one-hour classes, lunch, one keynote
lecture each day and a dgexpo T-shirt.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. on Friday
and 4 p.m. on Saturday. It will be held in the conference
center of the Student Services Building on Wake Tech's main
campus on U.S. 401 S.
Event sponsors include Virtual Heroes Inc., Course Technology
and Prentice Hall.
