Future and Gawker partner on Gizmodo UK

Fully localised tech website to launch in the autumn, Kat Hannaford to be editor

Future Publishing will partner with Gawker media to bring technology website Gizmodo to the UK.

Gizmodo UK, the ninth international edition of the site, is launching this autumn, and will be edited by former Gizmodo US contributing editor Kat Hannaford.

Gizmodo UK will supplement Future's existing portfolio of technology publications, which includes T3, TechRadar and MacFormat. The addition of Gizmodo will increase the reach of the company's tech portfolio to over 4 million UK consumers.

"Future is the perfect partner to run Gizmodo in the UK. They are experts in all things tech and understand the unique voice of Gizmodo," said Gawker Media COO Gaby Darbyshire in a statement.

"We are delighted that Kat, an old Gizmodo hand, will be running the site and look forward to working with the Future team."

"This partnership between Future and Gawker Media is another example of our commitment to delivering best in class, must-read content in the digital space," added Future UK CEO Mark Wood.

Harsh conditions in the print market have caused Future Publishing's profits to tumble, leading to redundancies in its UK offices.

In July, the company released an interim management statement that confirmed the need to shift the company's focus to digital, proposing that its US office become a digital-only operation.
